IRC [01:01] *** tclhal parted the chat.
IRC [02:35] *** systems joined the chat.
IRC [02:36] *** systems parted the chat.
IRC [03:41] *** frankie joined the chat.
IRC [07:37] *** robojamie joined the chat.
IRC [07:38] <robojamie> hey
IRC [07:40] <robojamie> right now I've got aolserver running on localhost, but I would like it to use my ip address. Do I need to edit /etc/hosts first?
IRC [07:41] <robojamie> or do I just change the values in the config file to my ip address?
IRC [07:43] *** robojamie parted the chat.
IRC [07:44] *** robojamie joined the chat.
IRC [09:57] <martinh> changing the IP should do it.
IRC [10:02] <robojamie> I've tried that...
IRC [10:02] <robojamie> It's driving me insane
IRC [10:06] <robojamie> Do I need to add stuff to /etc/hosts?
IRC [10:13] <martinh> what's the log saying when you try it?
IRC [10:16] <robojamie> let me see
IRC [10:17] <robojamie> It dosn't show any errors
IRC [10:17] <robojamie> It works fine on localhost, but I can't get it to serve on the internet
IRC [10:29] <martinh> wait. does it not serve from that IP, or from the internet? are you sure there's no firewall or anything like that active?
IRC [10:29] <martinh> because otherwise the error log will show something.
IRC [10:29] <robojamie> no firewall
IRC [10:30] <robojamie> my internet connection is ppp
IRC [10:31] <martinh> then there's something in the error log. or it says everything is fine, in which case there's an issue with your server or the connection.
IRC [10:32] <robojamie> Should I change the hostname from localhost?
IRC [10:33] <martinh> yea.
IRC [10:35] <robojamie> I have a dyndns.org account can I use that hostname?
IRC [10:44] <martinh> i think you could just do [ns_info hostname] and let aolserver figure it out.
IRC [10:46] <robojamie> set hostname [ns_info hostname] set address 172.195.211.30
IRC [10:46] <robojamie> thats what is in my config file
IRC [10:46] <robojamie> I'm gonna restart it and see if it work
IRC [10:46] <robojamie> s
IRC [10:47] <robojamie> nope
IRC [10:53] <martinh> now. are you trying from your localmachine?
IRC [10:53] <martinh> and, is that really your IP?
IRC [10:53] <martinh> and, what port is the server running on?
IRC [10:53] <robojamie> yeah im trying from my local machine
IRC [10:53] <robojamie> thats really my ip.. I'm running an ssh server and it works fine
IRC [10:53] <robojamie> 80
IRC [10:54] <martinh> ok. stick it on a different port for right now. like 7777 or something silly.
IRC [10:54] <martinh> and tell me.
IRC [10:54] <robojamie> ok
IRC [10:54] <martinh> and. i'm kind of amazed that aol is allowing incoming connections to its ppp clients.
IRC [10:55] <robojamie> woo hoo it worked
IRC [10:55] <martinh> ok. . .is there something else already running on 80? netstat -natp | grep :80
IRC [10:57] <robojamie> nope nothing
IRC [10:57] <robojamie> could it be my isp blocking it?
IRC [10:57] <martinh> and you're sure the linux box has no iptables rules in effect blocking it?
IRC [10:58] <martinh> even if aol was blocking it, it wouldn't block it if you're doing it from the box it's running on.
IRC [10:59] <martinh> i'm assuming you're starting it as root. . .
IRC [10:59] <robojamie> yeah
IRC [10:59] <robojamie> I don't have iptables running
IRC [11:00] <martinh> yea. then, there's either something else running on 80, which you verified it isn't or you have a local firewall installed. as far as I know, there's no other reason for something to not answer.
IRC [11:01] <martinh> and your error log has a line like: Notice: driver: accepting con
IRC [11:01] <martinh> nections
IRC [11:01] <martinh> right?
IRC [11:01] <martinh> hrm. i really need to fix that.
IRC [11:04] <robojamie> there are some errors in the log now
IRC [11:04] <robojamie> Notice: nsmain: security info: uid=33, euid=33, gid=33, egid=33
IRC [11:04] <robojamie> [04/Jul/2000:09:58:20][9412.3084310624][-main-] Error: nssock: failed to listen on 172.195.211.30:80: Permission denied
IRC [11:04] <robojamie> [04/Jul/2000:09:58:20][9412.3084310624][-main-] Warning: prebind: closed unused: 127.0.0.1:80 = 3
IRC [11:06] <martinh> ok. see. that's an error. that would have helped immensely. :->
IRC [11:06] <martinh> you need to prebind 80.
IRC [11:07] <martinh> but this on your command line: -b 172.195.211.30:80
IRC [11:07] <martinh> and then change the port back to 80
IRC [11:16] *** holycow parted the chat.
IRC [11:18] <robojamie> can I do that with the /etc/init.d/aolserver command?
IRC [11:18] <robojamie> or do I need to use aolserver4-nsd
IRC [11:32] *** holycow joined the chat.
IRC [11:37] <martinh> you would need to do it inside the /etc/init.d/aolserver wherever it actually launches the daemon.
IRC [11:41] <robojamie> yeah I figured it out
IRC [11:42] <robojamie> but I still can't get it to work
IRC [11:42] <robojamie> even with doing -b 172.195.211.30:80
IRC [11:52] *** robojamie parted the chat.
