IRC [01:45] <CppIsWeird> is there any way that i could get AOLServer to run on windows? I dont see any documentation supporting that it could run on windows
IRC [01:51] <partymola> i've never heard about that
IRC [01:51] <partymola> you'd ask Dossy
IRC [01:51] <partymola> but he may be sleeping atm
IRC [01:52] <partymola> if it's possible, sure he knows :)
IRC [01:54] <CppIsWeird> thanks
IRC [01:55] <partymola> you're welcome :)
IRC [01:55] <CppIsWeird> perhaps i should ask something else... i am going to be developing TCL web applications for someone who uses AOLServer, which is the only reason i want AOLServer, because they insist that i use it, however, i run a windows machine to develop on, if i were to install TCL in apache, they should work identically correct?
IRC [01:56] <partymola> nope
IRC [01:56] <partymola> aolserver has its own extensions and way to work
IRC [01:56] <partymola> it's not exactly as apache + tcl :)
IRC [01:57] <partymola> CppIsWeird: if there's not aolserver for windows, you may try running it in a virtual machine with bsd/linux
IRC [01:58] <partymola> and accessing to files via ftp, which may be probably the less painful for you if you wanna still develop using windows
IRC [01:59] <CppIsWeird> yeah, that what im working on now, however in the passed, me and linux seem to do more fighting then developing.
IRC [01:59] <partymola> i'd recommend freebsd ;)
IRC [01:59] <CppIsWeird> though, i wont be developing on windows forever... new moves in windows vista sicken me.
IRC [02:00] <CppIsWeird> what would be beneficial using FreeBSD? over say, gentoo?
IRC [02:00] <CppIsWeird> also what virtualization software you reccomend? I've herd VMWare is the best.
IRC [02:00] <partymola> aolserver is easy to install on freebsd
IRC [02:00] <partymola> yep, i think vmware is the best too
IRC [02:01] <partymola> u can get vmplayer, which is free
IRC [02:01] <partymola> and some image of freebsd for vmware somewhere
IRC [02:01] <partymola> so it'd be completely free
IRC [02:02] <partymola> but as i told you, that's the way if there's no windows version for aolserver
IRC [02:05] <partymola> http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3152&package_id=3064
IRC [02:05] <partymola> it seems the newest version of aolserver for windows is 4.0.7 or 4.1.0a
IRC [02:06] <partymola> if your client is using that version, or older, then it's perfect :)
IRC [02:06] <partymola> and no need for emulation :)
IRC [02:11] <CppIsWeird> hmm... my clients been using AOLServer for quite some time, so im sure its on a linux machine.
IRC [02:11] <CppIsWeird> oh
IRC [02:12] <CppIsWeird> thats not what you ment
IRC [02:12] <partymola> if they use aolserver 4.1.0a or older, then u can reproduce the same environment in your windows machine
IRC [02:13] <partymola> if not, u'll have to guess how to compile their version on windows
IRC [02:13] <partymola> or use linux/bsd instead :P
IRC [02:13] <CppIsWeird> ok, how do i get this AOLServer to work on windows?
IRC [02:14] <partymola> download from the link i gave you above
IRC [02:14] <partymola> it's at "pre-release" section
IRC [02:14] <CppIsWeird> ahh, ok.
IRC [02:19] <CppIsWeird> silly question, does AOLServer have anything to do with AOL - America Online?
IRC [02:20] <partymola> idk exactly... Dossy may reply to you better
IRC [02:21] <partymola> since he's a former employee of AOL as developer of aolserver
IRC [02:21] <CppIsWeird> lol, intresting.
IRC [02:22] <CppIsWeird> i must note, i love how small the server is
IRC [02:23] <partymola> and it has an amazing performance :)

IRC [06:42] <nodie> hi
IRC [06:42] <nodie> Dossy: you should indicate in the topic of the channel that 4.5.0 has the redirection bug
IRC [07:16] <frankie> nodie: you can change the topic yourself
IRC [07:17] <partymola> true, topic is not locked lol
IRC [07:17] <nodie> o_O
IRC [07:17] <nodie> doh!
IRC [07:17] <nodie> :)
IRC [07:36] <partymola> documentation makes reference to a nspasswd command I can't find
IRC [07:37] <partymola> which algorithm is used to encrypt passwords in the passwd file of nsperm?

IRC [09:16] *** cacrus parted the chat.
IRC [10:59] <Dossy> unix crypt, I believe.
IRC [11:00] <Dossy> OK.
IRC [11:00] <Dossy> OK, I need to seriously focus and get 4.0.11 and 4.5.1 out the door!
IRC [11:04] <partymola> yay!
IRC [11:04] <partymola> good morning, Dossy :)
IRC [11:06] <frankie> Dossy: debian etch will issue 4.0.10 only, do you think is better having both a 4.0.x and a 4.5.x series in next release (lenny)?
IRC [11:06] <frankie> Dossy: at woody time we had both 3 and 4 indeed
IRC [11:07] <Dossy> franky: I'd like to see 4.5.x in there, even if it sits in unstable.
IRC [11:07] <Dossy> Just so folks can try upgrading to it and playing w/ it.
IRC [11:07] <frankie> that's ok, but i could maintain both 4.0 and 4.5 or 4.5 only
IRC [11:08] <frankie> 4.0 sort of legacy edition and 4.5 for new installations
IRC [11:09] <Dossy> ... I'd like to see folks get onto 4.5 and off 4.0
IRC [11:10] <Dossy> But, considering how many people are *still* running 3.4.x and 3.5.x out there--like, 2+ years after 4.0 came out now?
IRC [11:10] <Dossy> I don't anticipate 4.0.x going away for another 3-4 years.
IRC [11:10] <frankie> eh
