IRC [09:00] <jhavard> Well, finally got the mail system like I want it. No more late nights and 40 hour days...
IRC [09:00] <jhavard> for a couple weeks atleast.
IRC [09:06] <Dossy> You must show me the secret of a 40 hour day. I only have 24 in mine. :P
IRC [09:22] <jhavard> It depends on how you define a day.
IRC [09:23] <jhavard> Commonly, it is one rotation of the earth.
IRC [09:23] <jhavard> But I prefer to consider a day as the period after a prolonged sleeping period that is concluded with a prolonged sleeping period.
IRC [09:25] <jhavard> Rather than staying on irc all day, I believe I'll go home and get some sleep.
IRC [09:54] <Dossy> Haha.
IRC [11:26] *** zoro2 joined the chat.

IRC [13:19] <jcollins> w0t
IRC [13:19] <jcollins> hey mister dossy any word on the ADP parser dealio?
IRC [13:20] <Dossy> nope, no response from Jim yet :(
IRC [13:24] <jcollins> ah well
IRC [13:24] <jcollins> not like i could get anybody to switch to 4.x anyway
IRC [13:24] <Dossy> oh?
IRC [13:24] <Dossy> what else is stopping you?
IRC [13:29] <jcollins> I don't think there are any huge benefits to switch to 4.x
IRC [13:29] <Dossy> from 3.x? performance, for one ...
IRC [13:29] <Dossy> but if 3.x performs adequately, then that's great
IRC [13:30] <Dossy> but I think people have found huge performance increases in 4.x
IRC [13:30] <jcollins> 3.5.x performs the same as 4.x for us
IRC [13:30] <Dossy> migrating a site from 3.x to 4.x increased max throughput something like 60%
IRC [13:30] <Dossy> and when you've got a load-balanced farm of 36 machnies ... getting 60% more capacity by doing a software upgrade is a great deal
IRC [13:30] <jcollins> yeah, we're not that big :)
IRC [13:31] <jcollins> aol probably gets more hits in an hour then we do all yr
IRC [13:32] <jcollins> the difference from 3.4 to 3.5 was huge for us
IRC [13:32] <jcollins> but 4 doesn't really make a difference
IRC [13:40] *** frankie joined the chat.
IRC [13:41] <Dossy> yeah, could be
IRC [13:41] <Dossy> keep in mind that if you feel like you're starting to max out your hardware w/ regard to hits/sec, before running out and buying more hardware, consider testing aolserver 4.
IRC [13:43] <jcollins> haha we'll max out our daterbase way before that
IRC [13:45] *** bartt joined the chat.
IRC [13:45] <jcollins> our use of aolserver is probably a lot different from aol
IRC [13:53] <Dossy> I guess.
IRC [14:25] *** zoro2 parted the chat.
IRC [14:35] <jcollins> then you guess correctly
IRC [14:45] *** zoro2 joined the chat.
