IRC [02:54] *** holycow joined the chat.
IRC [02:55] <holycow> hi all
IRC [02:56] <holycow> i just started reading about aolserver
IRC [02:56] <holycow> seems like there should be more people in here :)
IRC [04:25] *** tekbasse parted the chat.
IRC [05:29] *** tekbasse joined the chat.
IRC [07:13] <holycow> so ...
IRC [07:14] <holycow> ... forgive my forwardness ...
IRC [07:14] <holycow> but after reading about aolserver and how it works, various comparisons ....
IRC [07:15] <holycow> it seems that this particularly wonderfull technology suffers from an image issue
IRC [07:15] <holycow> namely the aol part in the name
IRC [07:15] <holycow> perhaps a name change has been considered in the past?
IRC [07:16] <holycow> anyway, i think something needs to be done about this, i'm googling and finding far too many articles for 2000 and far too few recent ones indicating obvious levels if activity
IRC [07:16] <holycow> darn shame :/
IRC [09:45] <Dossy> ?
IRC [09:45] <Dossy> it IS the day after christmas, after all ...
IRC [09:46] <Dossy> and, not a lot of people who use AOLserver like IRC.
IRC [09:50] <holycow> ehe :)
IRC [09:50] <holycow> my comment is more tongue in cheek anyway
IRC [09:50] <holycow> i was just struck by my first reaction to the name
IRC [09:50] <holycow> hi btw
IRC [10:04] <Dossy> hi.
IRC [10:06] <holycow> i've met some great people in #openacs
IRC [10:06] <holycow> i'm very thrilled to have found aolserver, from what i've read so far, its a stellar piece of engineering
IRC [10:07] <Dossy> It is.
IRC [10:07] <Dossy> However, it's not for everyone.
IRC [10:08] <Dossy> Anyhow, I need to help disassemble the christmas tree. bbl.
IRC [10:10] <tekbasse> Here's a recent marketshare report... http://www.serverwatch.com/stats/netcraft/article.php/3308631
IRC [10:11] <tekbasse> 7000 websites running aolsever in Feb.2004
IRC [10:12] <holycow> that number should be much great if what i'm interpreting from my reading thus far is correct
IRC [10:18] <tekbasse> it's just 1 survey. It does not evaluate the size of a webiste, how active it is, or the demands placed on them
IRC [10:19] <holycow> *nod*
IRC [11:01] <Dossy> yeah, if they ever produced a "daily page views by server software type" I'd be really keen to see if AOLserver makes a better showing.
IRC [11:01] <Dossy> that survey shows some 31M sites.
IRC [11:01] <Dossy> (running Apache)
IRC [11:02] <Dossy> If you figure that 95% of those sites receive an average of 1 PV/day, they really shouldn't count towards the survey IMHO. :-)
IRC [11:03] <holycow> heh
IRC [11:04] <holycow> i was just talking to someone in #openacs
IRC [11:04] <holycow> they have aolserver and open acs deployed to 50k people at a uni
IRC [11:04] <holycow> sheesh!
IRC [11:04] <Dossy> nod.
IRC [11:05] *** holycow parted the chat.
IRC [11:23] <tekbasse> How many white elephant projects does it take to create a successful sacred cow project? by that survey, looks like the answer is something like 5000 =)
