IRC [10:43] <Dossy> Morning, everyone.
IRC [11:09] <jcdldn> hey dossy is there any timeline for the 4.5 release?
IRC [11:09] <Dossy> not yet
IRC [11:09] <Dossy> "soon" -- I know, that doesn't help.
IRC [11:12] <jcdldn> One other question: is there an easy way to tell if content has been returned or not in the current connection?
IRC [11:12] <jcdldn> (ie. ns_write has been called)
IRC [11:13] <Dossy> hmmm, not sure
IRC [11:14] <jcdldn> one problem with ns_returnz is that sometimes ns_return gets called after ns_write has been used.
IRC [11:14] <Dossy> heh
IRC [11:14] <jcdldn> mostly thats when we have streaming for something that takes a while, and there is an error
IRC [11:14] <Dossy> why are you using ns_write?
IRC [11:14] <jcdldn> the error handler outputs a templated page and ns_returnz happily gzips it.
IRC [11:15] <Dossy> hmm
IRC [11:15] <Dossy> what about using the ns_adp_compress instead of ns_returnz
IRC [11:15] <jcdldn> it's not an adp
IRC [11:16] <Dossy> oh
IRC [11:16] <Dossy> ...
IRC [11:17] <jcdldn> and in any case it's all over since we rename ns_returnz to ns_return and I don't want to dig through the code.
IRC [11:17] <jcdldn> I just want to turn it off so I can read the error tracebacks.
IRC [11:18] <Dossy> ugh
IRC [11:18] <jcdldn> you get the headers twice anyway so it's never a great solution but I figured there must be a way to tell whats been written.
IRC [11:22] <jcdldn> connPtr->nContentSent
IRC [11:23] <Dossy> that's tough though
IRC [11:23] <Dossy> also - in 4.5 there's going to be autoflush of ADP buffer for chunked TE etc.
IRC [11:23] <Dossy> 4.5 is going to be a significant upgrade, thus Jim's inclination to renumber it 4.5
IRC [11:25] <jcdldn> yeah, I have been looking at the changes.
IRC [11:44] *** frankie parted the chat.
IRC [11:53] <Dossy> the whole nContentSent thing is a mess
IRC [11:53] <Dossy> I'm guessing the reason why we sometimes see 4G bytes sent in the nslog is because of nContentSent's implementation
IRC [11:54] <Dossy> okay, i'm just about ready to ditch ZoneAlarm. maybe it's causing these lock-ups I'm seeing. grrr.
IRC [11:56] <jcdldn> why do you need a firewall?
IRC [12:01] <Dossy> because i don't trust the networks I attach to (it's a laptop)
IRC [13:35] *** frankie joined the chat.
IRC [14:49] *** holycow joined the chat.
IRC [15:19] <Dossy> ugh
IRC [17:08] <jhavard> what'd holycow do to deserve an "ugh"?
