IRC [13:13] <thefinn> hi there, two of us are trying to get OpenACS up, nsd-postgres keeps dying with the error "Abort Trap", googling this lead me here ;)
IRC [13:14] <thefinn> led*
IRC [13:18] <tekbasse> Is it on Mac OS X?
IRC [13:19] <tekbasse> find "abort trap" on this page, if that's the case: http://openacs.org/forums/message-view?message_id=139390
IRC [13:23] <tekbasse> otherwise, it helps if you can be more specific. What OS, version of aolserver? Is there a url where you are reading directions?
IRC [13:24] <tekbasse> thefinn, There's also #openacs
IRC [13:25] <thefinn> sorry for the delay in response, I'm under the desk hoping more ram would do the job, brb
IRC [13:26] <thefinn> no, I'm on OpenBSD 3.6
IRC [13:29] <tekbasse> I use FreeBSD with it, and usually set the stacksize at multiple of 4096 also, since Mac OS X and FreeBSD share many kernel features.
IRC [13:30] <tekbasse> er.. multiple of 8k: see stacksize in the config file: http://cvs.openacs.org/cvs/openacs-4/etc/config.tcl?rev=1.19.2.22&only_with_tag=oacs-5-1&view=markup
IRC [13:31] <thefinn> tekbasse, I tried that earlier, no luck
IRC [13:32] <tekbasse> you can make the stacksize smaller too.. 128 * 8192 is large... I'm checking cvs for the lower amount which used to be standard until recently.
IRC [13:38] <tekbasse> you might try somethinmg like 32 * 8192 for stacksize
IRC [13:39] <tekbasse> or 16 * 8192 evem
IRC [13:39] <tekbasse> evem
IRC [13:39] <tekbasse> er. even
IRC [13:39] <tekbasse> bbl
IRC [14:10] * Dossy is a fan of multiples of 1024. my brain doesn't do the 32 * 8 * 1024 math fast enough.
IRC [14:10] <Dossy> (what is 8*32, anyway)
IRC [14:10] <Dossy> oh, 256.
IRC [14:12] <Dossy> I'd generally suggest 1M stack for most things, a 2M stack for things which you "know" are going to be stack-intensive.
IRC [14:14] <tekbasse> ok, so 128 * 8192 is circa 1M.. good to know, cause the old openacs config file used to have 0.5M, and I was wondering if the default was set too high now.
IRC [14:17] <tekbasse> the aolserver ref. config.tcl has it set at 128 * 1024: http://aolserver.com/docs/admin/config-reference.tcl.txt
IRC [14:17] <tekbasse> which is *much* smaller
IRC [14:17] <Dossy> yeah.
IRC [14:17] <Dossy> well, normally, you really don't NEED a big stack
IRC [14:17] <Dossy> i mean, many sites can run fine inside 64K stack.
IRC [14:18] <tekbasse> righto. Openacs is stack heavy.. lots to do =)
