IRC [08:59] <Dossy> hi Andy.
IRC [09:10] <martinh> does anyone have any information on using xotcl in aolserver? any docs or pages about it? to save me a bunch of expirimenting time. . .
IRC [09:12] <Dossy> just package require XOTcl
IRC [09:12] <Dossy> should "just work"
IRC [09:12] <Dossy> although, man, the XOTcl syntax makes baby Jesus cry.
IRC [09:13] <Dossy> After seeing all the Ruby-on-Rails hype, I'm thinking about using Tcl stooop to create a OO-based web app framework for AOLserver.
IRC [09:17] <martinh> heh. that's what mat and I are considering with xotcl.
IRC [09:19] <martinh> i hadn't seen stooop before now, but since I hate c++ the choice is fairly easy for me. :->
IRC [09:20] <Dossy> guh
IRC [09:20] <Dossy> hate C++, but the syntax sure beats XOTcl
IRC [09:20] <martinh> except, it's designed to look like c++
IRC [09:22] <Dossy> stooop lets you write code that /looks/ like normal Tcl. that's why I like it.
IRC [09:24] <martinh> heh. . ."normal Tcl". that's funny! :->
IRC [09:31] <martinh> so am I missing something or does stooop not support inheritance?
IRC [09:36] <Dossy> sure it does.
IRC [09:37] <martinh> i don't really see any reference to it on the page.
IRC [09:37] <Dossy> yeah, they don't call it out explicitly.
IRC [09:38] <Dossy> but it's per-method inheritance, which is kinda odd
IRC [09:38] <Dossy> look at the example code for the "triangle" class
IRC [09:38] <Dossy> look at the constructor - that's where you define the inheritance, it seems
IRC [09:38] <martinh> oooh. hmmm.
IRC [09:38] <martinh> that seems ugly. . .
IRC [09:39] <Dossy> why, because it isn't on the "class" declaration?
IRC [09:39] <Dossy> class vs. constructor declaration, what's the big deal
IRC [09:40] <Dossy> stooop doesn't pretend to be a full object system. it just gives you a bit of syntactic sugar (essentially) to write code that LOOKS like an object system. just like Perl's "bless"
IRC [09:41] <martinh> well so far it's designed to look like c++ and function like something from Perl. you're not selling me here. :->
IRC [09:44] <Dossy> :-)
IRC [09:44] <Dossy> hey, go ahead and do XOTcl. tell me how you like it.
IRC [09:49] <martinh> oh. I can already see it's ugly, but i've gotten used to tcl and ugly going together. . .
IRC [09:56] <Dossy> Let me guess, you like Java?
IRC [09:57] <martinh> sure do. and python and C and a number of other things that are even uglier than tcl.
IRC [09:58] <Dossy> ...
IRC [09:58] <Dossy> :)
IRC [09:59] <martinh> the stuff is useful, even if not pretty. in fact, I don't believe a pretty language exists.
IRC [09:59] <martinh> so, I live with ugly.
IRC [13:09] *** dekoy joined the chat.
IRC [13:09] <dekoy> hi does aolserver support korean text or fonts ? or should tcl supports it ?
IRC [13:18] <dekoy> what im trying to do is just outputing korean text on a tcl page
IRC [14:15] *** bartt joined the chat.
IRC [14:48] <tekbasse> dekoy, aolserver/tcl supports it via utf-8 charset, maybe other char sets.. I'm not sure.
IRC [14:58] <dekoy> thanks
