IRC [08:48] <daguz> partymola: no fix for nsjava. I did not contact the maintainer yet. It has not been updated since 2002. It is not worth my time to monkey with it anymore. Customers don't want to pay for software that is not really being used.
IRC [08:49] <daguz> The goal was to interface with our new rules engine (corticon)
IRC [08:51] <daguz> I think I am off to try and get twist? working to send it soap. I'm not that familiar with soap or how this will work. If anyone has any insight you are welcome to give advice :)
IRC [08:51] <daguz> also trying to get xotcl working today so we can quit with some of the crazy coding that we do. I hope this is successful...
IRC [09:41] <Dossy> what's your issue with nsjava/
IRC [09:42] <Dossy> I didn't think it needed a maintainer--1) I didn't think anyone was using it, 2) I thought it was usable in its latest state.
IRC [09:57] <daguz> dossy: libnsjava.so: undefined symbol: NsTclDbCmd..
IRC [09:58] <daguz> that is the error. I don't have a clue why this is so.
IRC [10:16] <Dossy> What version of AOLserver are you using? AS3.x?
IRC [10:20] <Dossy> Looks like you're using 4.0
IRC [10:20] <Dossy> or, some 4.x
IRC [10:22] <Dossy> I think I can give you a simple patch that might help.
IRC [10:23] <Dossy> Oh, yuck--the change to nsdb from 3.x to 4.x changed NsTclDbCmd to static DbObjCmd ... ouch.
IRC [10:28] <Dossy> yeah, nsjava sadly will need major work to get it to work with AOLserver 4.x, sigh.
IRC [10:28] <Dossy> You may be better off just running a AS3.x install that only loads nsjava, and then do some simple web-servicey thing to it from your AS4.x server.
IRC [10:29] <daguz> I am trying to get 4.5 build and working with all the new stuff we need... Yea, I saw that the way to go is use a 3.x server... but if I have to use that for my java... I might as well use apache..
IRC [10:30] <daguz> sad.
IRC [10:30] <daguz> what about nsjk2 on 4.5? is that going to work?
IRC [10:30] <daguz> I am a little confused about that.
IRC [10:31] <daguz> maybe I'll shoot a specific question to you later. ;)
IRC [10:33] <daguz> I'm trying not to erode your faith in computing professionals. ha ha
IRC [10:48] <Dossy> nsjk2 is just to connect aolserver to tomcat.
IRC [10:49] <Dossy> You could try tclblend.
IRC [10:49] <Dossy> I still don't understand why you /need/ nsjava at all.
IRC [10:49] <Dossy> What java do you have that you need to run inside AOLserver?
IRC [10:50] <Dossy> Are you writing new Java code, or trying to run existing Java Code?
IRC [10:51] <Dossy> I suspect your pain comes from trying to solve a problem incorrectly.
IRC [11:15] <daguz> I think you are right about solving the pain incorrectly. I do need and want to write some java code....
IRC [11:17] <daguz> I am not sure all the requirements. FOr instance: I don't know if we need to be able to have the java code query the database.
IRC [11:18] <daguz> But I do know that I need to call java methods, create objects, and call their methods.
IRC [11:19] <daguz> I'm sitting about quarter way up a steep learning curve to do this. And I'm not exactly sure what the end result buys us.
IRC [11:21] <Dossy> So, look at TclBlend.
IRC [11:21] <daguz> I'm confused about what tomcat gets us. I don't know if tclblend provides the functionality I need.
IRC [11:21] <daguz> Ok..
