IRC [17:55] <the_unmaker> aolserver and php
IRC [17:55] <the_unmaker> what do yall think?
IRC [18:03] <Mooooooo> its been done
IRC [18:04] <the_unmaker> will it do better than apache 2.2.3 prefork?
IRC [18:04] <the_unmaker> Im stuck w php at work
IRC [18:05] <Mooooooo> no idea. i've tried it, it works, but haven't done benchmarks
IRC [18:08] <the_unmaker> hm
IRC [18:09] <the_unmaker> in general aolserver does very nicely resourc wise right?
IRC [18:18] <Mooooooo> yup
IRC [18:18] <Mooooooo> i run several commercials sites on it for almost 10 years
IRC [18:34] <the_unmaker> nice
IRC [18:35] <the_unmaker> I am working for a web company and they have apache and php and when they get digged the php children garb 30% of cpu each
IRC [18:35] <the_unmaker> I saw load avg 100 on dual core box that centos 5 sees as having 4 cpus
IRC [18:35] <the_unmaker> so I scaled back # of apache children
IRC [18:35] <the_unmaker> but
IRC [18:35] <the_unmaker> apache just seems lame now
IRC [18:36] <the_unmaker> others say try nginx or lighttpd but I read some greenspun stuff about aolserver last year and have wanted to try it ever since
IRC [18:36] <Mooooooo> we use both
IRC [18:36] <the_unmaker> problem is the php apps were downlaoded from "our ap does all ths for you" kinda site
IRC [18:36] <the_unmaker> not built in house
IRC [18:36] <the_unmaker> so debugging the php apps is going to be hard
IRC [18:36] <the_unmaker> :(
IRC [18:37] <Mooooooo> anything custom coded is on aolserver and all other boilerplate apps are on apache
IRC [18:38] <the_unmaker> :)
IRC [18:38] <the_unmaker> Im alos trying to fix the nfs usage
IRC [18:39] <the_unmaker> I think our static files should not be over nfs
IRC [18:39] <the_unmaker> but hard to pick out what the php one fits all app is goig to do
IRC [18:39] <the_unmaker> hmm
IRC [18:39] <the_unmaker> tossing around idea of openAFS
IRC [18:39] <the_unmaker> friend also mentioned iscsi
IRC [18:40] <Mooooooo> not familiar with it
IRC [18:43] <the_unmaker> well we have 4 servers with same apache, serving php apps
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> since the apps have to remain consistent as users upload stuff, we mount the files from 1 on to 2 3 4
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> using nfs
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> one idea is to not mount from the 1st webserver
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> mount from a storage box
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> and an other is use openAFS not nfs
IRC [18:44] <the_unmaker> or iscsi
IRC [18:45] <the_unmaker> someone told me to rsync static stuff adn nfs munt onyl dynamic directories
IRC [18:45] <the_unmaker> but boss told me they had trouble since some apps use imagemagic to resize iamges and they had bad reaction in past..
IRC [18:45] <the_unmaker> <----many things to solve lol
IRC [18:49] <Mooooooo> sounds like it :)
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> I just hope that no matter how great a webserver I put in
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> it wont matter
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> since the php scripts are hogs
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> Id love to say
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> "scrap all this carp"
IRC [18:50] <the_unmaker> crap
IRC [18:51] <the_unmaker> grab a framework liek cakephp
IRC [18:51] <the_unmaker> and lets amke our own lean apps
IRC [18:54] <the_unmaker> I dont thinkI can get them to move to tcl
IRC [18:54] <the_unmaker> (in my dreams)
IRC [18:55] <the_unmaker> I should try n throw an openAFS up on a box
IRC [18:55] <the_unmaker> see if I can tempt them
IRC [18:55] <Mooooooo> hehe, like laying out a trap
IRC [18:55] <Mooooooo> to snare unsuspecting IT bosses
IRC [18:57] <the_unmaker> seriously
IRC [18:57] <the_unmaker> for their own good
IRC [18:57] <the_unmaker> I gota learn so much
IRC [18:57] <the_unmaker> FHEW
IRC [18:57] <the_unmaker> should probly run meself through tcl tutorial
IRC [19:03] <Mooooooo> good idea
