Luke 12:33 - Sell all you have & give to the poor Luke 14:33+ - All His followers must give up everything (also in Mark 8:34+) Luke 18:22 - Rich ruler commanded the same (also in Mark 10:21) Luke 19:8 - Zacchaeus doing so, and winning favorable words from Christ Luke 9:25 - What does it profit to gain the whole world? Luke 8:14 - Parable of the Sower, where some were "choked by cares and riches and pleasures" of the world (think about all three of those things, how they are like opposites (cares vs riches & pleasures) but they really stem from the same root of not trusting the Almighty Luke 6:20+ - Beatitudes, especially verses 24-26 (which is like Luke 16:25), and 38 Matthew 6:19,32,34 - Treasures on earth are temporary, and the Father knows what we need to live Revelation 13:17 - What if we are already experiencing the mark of the beast? Even if we are not, is it not good practice to prepare by learning how to live without buying and selling? Revelation 3:12 - This congregation thought they needed nothing, but were poor in Christ's eyes. How easy is it to be like this? In Acts the church demonstrates a possessionless lifestyle, such as in 2:44+, 4:32+. Psalm 62:10 - "If riches increase, set not your heart on them." Psalm 49:16-19 - "Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases; for he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him. Though while he lived he counted himself blessed -- and men praise you when you prosper. He will join the generation of his fathers, who will never see the light of life." I John 3:16,17 - "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?" Remember, always, the caution in Matthew 7:13-14. There are not many who will do right, so it should not surprise us if the right way is very rare and many people do the opposite of it.
